The elderly population is increasing every year in the world. Old age with its biological, psychological and sociological aspects is a process which has its own unique transformations and problems. Chronic diseases and disability in this process cause deterioration in quality of life, inadequacies regarding care, and economic loss at substantial levels. Disability, which are mostly due to chronic diseases and can be linked to mobility, can be reduced by protective measures and interventions. The role of public health nurses, one of the health professional group, in 'Elderly Health Services' towards health problems related to mobility and disability in the elderly population growing, is undeniable. However, most important problem is that public health nurses do not have sufficient knowledge about disability and mobility problems of elderly people and their approaches to these problems. In this study, it is aimed to provide information about the disability, mobility and characteristics of elderly people living in our country, and to contribute by presenting a guidance on the responsibilities of public health nurses in evaluating and delaying mobility-related disability thus improving the quality of life for people aged 65 and over. It is recommended that public health nurses follow up elderly people with mobility related disability and plan appropriate interventions in accordance with this purpose.
