Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that the etiology is exactly unknown characterized by diffuse musculoskeletal system pain and accompanied by many symptoms, such as sleep disturbances, muscle weakness, anxiety. It is reported that on patients with fibromyalgia is widespread low levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D acts as regulator of the immune system activity. In addition, vitamin D is also associated with pain. Vitamin D deficiency is thought related to an increased sensitivity to pain, potentially because the “pain-sensing” neurons produce and respond to active Vitamin D metabolites. Vitamin D deficiency increases the stimulation of nociceptive and leads to hypersensitivity. Especially there are limited studies in the literature in nursing areas related to follow of vitamin D on patients with fibromyalgia. Nurse should assess the fibromyalgia patients in the terms of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. It is essential that nurses should be effective interventions to supports vitamin D for the pain management on fibromyalgia patients.
