The Effect of Three Different Methods During Blood Collection on Pain Level and Parental Satisfaction in Children

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of 3 different methods (buzzy, digital game, and cartoons) on pain management in 5–10-year-old children and parental satisfaction during blood collection.

Material and Methods: The data of the study were collected from the obstetrics and gynecology hospital blood collection unit in Zonguldak. The sample consisted of 120 children between 5 and 10 years of age, and the study was carried out with the children and their parents, including 90 children from the initiative group (buzzy, digital game, and cartoons) and 30 children from the control group (routine procedure). The child and parent identification form created by the researcher, Wong-Baker faces pain scale, child fear scale, and parental satisfaction scale were used to collect the data.

Results: In this study, the 3 different methods used during invasive procedures in children were found to be effective, both in increasing parental satisfaction and in pain and fear management of children.

Conclusion: We concluded that the 3 different methods used during invasive procedures were effective in increasing parental satisfaction and in managing pain and fear in children.
