Determination of Relation between Duty Satisfaction of Midwives and Their Responsibility and Authorization on Duty

Objective: This study is conducted to determine the relation between duty satisfaction of midwives and their responsibility and authorization on duty. It is implemented as a cross sectional observational and descriptive study. Method: The sample of the study consists of 300 midwives who are chosen from five different training and research hospital from Istanbul Health Directory. The survey data are summed up by using introductory information form, perception scale of midwives ‘ duty satisfaction and their responsibilities, The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire between the January of 2010 and the March of 2010. The percentage distribution test, the cronbach alpha test, averages, t test, pearson correlation analysis, one-way analysis of variance, and Tukey’s test were used for evaluating the data. Result: It has been observed that the average point of perception scale of duty satisfaction and responsibilities of midwives is 140,40±14,73, and their cognition and application levels were determined as being at mid-level. The average point of Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire was 3,01±0,61 and their duty satisfaction was determined as being at mid-level. Conclusion: According to the results of the study the inverse weak relationship was determined between the perception of duty satisfaction and responsibilities of midwives and duty satisfaction of midwives. It has been determined that there is a significant relationship between the cognition level of midwives on authorization on duty and responsibilities and their higher education level, short working time, working as a midwife at the department they belong to. It has been determined duty satisfaction of midwives is affected positively by the duty that she operates at the department where she works at, being satisfied with the department they work for, finding the profession of midwifery appropriate for themselves, allowing free time themselves, being eager to perform their duties.
