Recognition of the surgical tools and enough information about surgical instruments by surgical team member is one of the difficulties in the surgery process. Surgical tools are used to perform a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure. The success of the surgery is beyond dispute in the surgical tools manufactured to implement the surgical technique. Deterioration or breakage of the surgical tools causes an extension of the duration of surgery and the surgical teams stress increases. And the lack of cleanliness cause surgical site infections or other infectious diseases. As a solution of this problem team members have to have the instructions to use surgical tools and it is necessary to have adequate knowledge on the cleaning and maintenance issues. Shortly, the accurate determination, control and maintenance of the surgical instruments require detailed knowledge in this area. The purpose of this review is to provide information to the surgical team members that can be used on surgical tools.
