The Investigation of Work Environment, Working Conditions and Job Satisfaction among Physiotherapists

Objective: This study aims to reveal the effect of work environment, work conditions and periods on job satisfaction and physical complaints among physiotherapists employed in Turkey in public institutions and organizations or private institutions. Methods: A total of 204 volunteer physiotherapists were enrolled in this study. One hundred eleven physiotherapists were working in public institutions (Group 1) and 93 physiotherapists were working in private institutions (Group 2). ‘Work Environment Satisfaction Questionnaire of Physiotherapists’ which was prepared by us and composed of 6 sections and 31 questions was applied face to face to volunteer participants after their demographic information was taken. Findings: The mean age of participants was 29.88±6.80 years in Group 1 and 33.85±8.87 years in Group 2 (p=0.00). Total working time of Group 1 was 6.41 ± 6.89 and 10.10 ± 8.82 was in Group 2 (years) (p=0.01) and sitting time of Group 1 was 3.35±1.35 and 2.95±1.21 was in Group 2 (hours) (p=0.03). Group 2 was found to have a longer total working time and a shorter sitting time at work. The total score of the questionnaire was found 60.32±14.80 in Group 1 and 43.35±13.87 in Group 2. In this study sub-sections and the total score of satisfaction levels were found significantly superior in Group 1 compared to Group 2 (p=0.00). Conclusion: This study showed that physiotherapists working in private institutions are more satisfied with working environment and work conditions than physiotherapists working in public institutions and organizations.
