Habilitation Implementation during Childhood Disabilities and Role of Nurses

Early childhood development is important opportunity phase for all children for providing lifelong learning and participation in social life. For this reason, it is stated that accessibility of disabled children to activities and services is very important in terms of helping to discover their existent maximum potential. Despite, since these children are vulnerable to developmental risks, this groups are ignored in both programs in a worldwide and planned services extent. Especially in our country, it is emphasized that services delivered in this manner are old fashioned and inadequate and it needs a new approach to plan actions. Habilitation is defined as process for teaching new skills to discover and usage of maximum potential, today it is accepted as a different approach for childhood disabilities in many countries around the world. In this review, the conceptual framework and its implementations and role and responsibilities of nurses for this new concept was tried to explained which foresees gaining new skills in childhood disabilities, increasing participation in social life and participation of families in the teaching procedure.
